And I’m kicking off the beginnings of a 30-day Anti-Procrastination Challenge.
This is really strictly documenting for my posterity sake.
How do once and for all overcome pros procrastination or the billed habits that allow me to do that.
And for that in, I put together a 3-step process and I’ve read many books on how procrastination, on how not procrastinate and what i found is that a lot of great information are in them but it’s overwhelmed.
That’s the irony of it. There’s somewhat information about how to overcome procrastination that actually procrastinate.
So I am starting today, today is actually December 2nd, I was gonna start on the first. But I procrastinated. Just kidding.
I’ve been thinking about this for some time. I’m gonna kick this off on Saturday and go through on Sunday.
And this is the 3-step process I’m going to pursue.
Each day and throughout the month I’ll share other Google tidbits and nuggets that are helping me along the way.
But I want to keep this very simple.
The first step that I’m going to focus on is acknowledging that I’m procrastinating.
Now, I do not have procrastination problem during my work hours because I have a pretty good set of habits and routines that ensure that I stand on top of this.
When I fall down is when I’m at home and I’ve got elective type projects to take on.
Now, I say elective because these are important projects for me.
I want to launch a blog learnhowtoprosper.com and as a part of that, I’m launching a Shopify store, an eCommerce store.
There’s a lot of repetitive necessary activities that need to happen on a day to day basis in order to accomplish these goals over the next year.
I’m really doing this on the month of December so I’m prepared to launch effectively beginning January 1, 2018.
Step 1 acknowledge that I’m procrastinating.
What this means is that when I’m sitting there at night, I’m going to take a moment and acknowledge what I’m doing right now.
What should I be doing?
Am I procrastinating?
Which takes me very quickly to step number 2 why I am stalling and what do I need to do next?
Why I am stalling is not perhaps is necessary as the next one what to do next.
Although sometimes it’s not a bad idea to think about is it fear, is it overwhelmed that is holding me back, is it not knowing what to do next, not knowing where to start, is it not having a compelling enough purpose, why I am doing this? Do I already have a full time job? I dedicate 20 hours a week to church, have a family, there’a a lot going on.
The purpose has to be powerful.
And for me, I’m committed to positioning myself and more importantly my family to be in a place where we are financially independent and there’s no concern for future welfare.
There’s no guarantees in life but after something I can do to positioning myself and my family to be free from.
That’s what I’m going to do.
It’s my number one purpose as a husband, a father, a grandfather is to provide and help my family accomplish the same.
So the what to do next, I’ve got something that I’ve been using called Wunderlist.
I really want to recommend this to you.
There’s also an application here.
I’m just gonna show you.
The format that I’m going to use everyday is that create a To Do for several sub tasks and to do is the date, today is 2nd of December 2017.
Put a little hyphen in there, it’s because if you don’t, it won’t allow me to use this label as a To Do for today.
Anyway, I wanted this format and I have these different sub tasks that I outlined here.
I can have different notes.
One little thing that I want to do today is create a video content.
I’ve been thinking about something that I could really work on personally to help me prosper better in my life.
It was this procrastination and kicking off a 30-day non-procrastination of challenge.
So, when I look at content for this month and I’m really gonna be focusing on overcoming procrastination and coming up next, in the next month or two or talk about perhaps overcoming discouragement, a book that I’m writing called Becoming and Documenting and Creating a Business on Shopify.
That is something I will be oultining here.
The final step is to act.
Now, there’s awareness than procrastinating and you’re doing something else right now.
Just a brief self check on why I am stalling and then move quickly on what to do next in that’s where I go to my Wunderlist.
I’ll have my very clearly creative steps.
I’m gonna do this every single day.
And as program 30-day Non-Procrastination Challenge, I’m going to create a video where I call out.
Talk about what I did well, what I didn’t do so well so that I can sure things up for the next day.
The final step is act.
Now that I know what I’m supposed to be doing, I’m going to act.
I’ve got this timer.
It’s an online timer and I really like this process.
If I’m going to do something I’ll come in here and give myself 5 minutes or more, 20 minutes and then I can start that.
I like this because I like to do these tasks, like to click them of in 20 minutes and I’ve just found that putting a deadline on the end of something that is really helpful.
I may not give them all done but it gets me started.
I think that’s what’s so important for me and I think for somebody to overcome procrastination.
You first of all have to acknowledge it, you jump in, you analyze it, you think through what you need to do next and take action.
These are the three steps that I’m going to be pursuing everyday.
I want this to become a habit from me, something that I do on a regular basis.
Of course I built out my Wunderlist so I know what I’ll be working on everyday including at the end of the day today.
I’m going to do on two things.
I’m gonna go to my tasks.
I’m gonna do accounting on how I did today.
I’m gonna create a new task for the next day so that I’m ready with these steps that I know what I’m to do.
