“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.”
-Norman Vincent Peale
The great underpinning of all success is confidence. I sometimes marvel at some individuals, and how they carry themselves with such power. It seems as if nothing can affect them. Where does that type of confidence come from?
There are many points we can tackle here on this one, but none as important as this first one.
Step 1: Choose to be confident! Confidence like so many things, begins with a choice and that choice is yours.
Start with a couple of questions to yourself. Do you know your purpose? Do you want to be a force for good in the world? Do you care about people?
If you can answer these questions then you are on your way. If you don’t know the answer to these questions then it’s going to be difficult to act on things in the world around you.
So how do you “choose to be confident”? Just decide to. That’s it. No need to over complicate it or delve into your difficult or easy past.
No one else out there is going to decide to make YOU confident. Only you can do that. So do it!
… Did you do it yet? Go ahead!
Okay, maybe that seems over simplified, but it isn’t. Everything in your life begins with you choosing to do it first. But let’s give you until the end of this article to get there. 🙂 Let’s dive into the next step.
Step 2. Know your purpose. If you don’t know why you do what you do, then you are not in charge of your life. If you aren’t the creator and master of your plan, then someone else is. It’s very difficult to have confidence in yourself when you aren’t in charge of your life’s plan.
Perhaps you don’t believe that we as humans have any purpose. Maybe you have come to accept that you are no more significant than a cabbage, or a door stop. There are forces of discouragement that would like for you to believe that. But it’s not true, and you know it deep down.
You have immeasurable significance. And you are designed to create, to give and to contribute. Now you may not yet know what you can or ought to contribute at this point, and that’s okay. It may take a little pondering and thought to discover what you are to contribute.
The most important thing for you to do right now is to believe. Trust that voice within you that often, in subtle ways, pokes you and whispers in your mind: “You are meant to do greater things”, “There is something better, something significant you can be doing”.
Please just trust that voice. Even if you can only give it 30% confidence, give it what you can. That will plant the seed necessary to grow from here.
Until you get a clear idea of your purpose, please consider this. Your purpose is to create value in the world. Your purpose is to contribute. HOW you contribute can vary broadly.
Start today by evaluating what you are giving of yourself to the world. If you are struggling with what that might be, here is list you might consider:
-Organize and clean up your world around you. Make your bed. Wipe down the mirror.
-Give someone a hug.
-Give someone a genuine compliment.
-At work, go a little bit above and beyond the defined task.
-Share your passion or hobby on your own Youtube channel.
Create your own list of things you could do. Okay, so now you have decided to be more confident and MADE the choice to be so. You have begun to understand your purpose. Now you are ready for the final step.
Be a force for GOOD in the world. By tapping into that vein of caring and love you will find unstoppable confidence because everything you do is in alignment with the creator of all things.
You may not at present know or believe in a creator and the good news is, you don’t need to in order for these steps to work.
Go make it a very blessed day!
